Kehidupan Segelintir Yang Terlampau

Video Terlampau, Hari Guru, Chibiok's Wedding, PPM etc
Video terlampau, starring mostly Kalai (90% of the time uninvited) and budak-budak Pavi, are in circulation now. I haven't paid mine and apparently Awie passed to Auzir, now doing some consultancy work at Khazanah - so will chase Auzir for my copy soon.
Knowing Awie, the video would have been fun and of good quality. We had sneak preview during the "Back To School Reunion" in December 2005.
(really not in my writing mood. Took me 10 minutes to write two sentences!)
Luckily many of us the low profile F5s were not featured - which was a good thing because we wouldn't be laughed at. I guess I only had one shot - trying to talk Cikgu Azizam (warden of the day) into something, most probably some scheme to keluar town haram legally in the living daylight.
Most of the footings feature 5 Sc 5 (well Awie was in 5 Sc 5 and Pavi, so naturally) - but it was good fun nevertheless.
Who would say now that abuse of school facilities was a bad thing?
Hari Guru
A posting on Class of 98, as well as Pyan's attempt at listing all the teachers he ever had, prompted some discussions between Fazurin and I while we were on the way up north last weekend.
The list of teachers that "tak lekang dek panas tak luntur dek hujan" is endless - Liew, Tan Gim Hoe, Anand, Yatie, Zaidi, Smash, Sherry, Halizah, Gedebe and many many more - so no point trying to list them here.
But we often forget about KFC (K F Chong), our Biology teacher back in 1994 - perhaps because of her relatively short stint at MCKK. Had she stayed longer, she would have been a legend too.
KFC has double first from UM, in Biology and Mathematics.
Koleq boys always tried to test new teachers and see whether she/he could cope with our antics, but we learnt from the first lesson that you could not bully this one Biology teacher.
Some of the things that she said that never fail to make us laugh when we think of her:
Scene 1 (reconstruction):
Fadli, seperti biasa mengangkat tangan and banyak tanya soalan.
Fadli: Teacher teacher, macam mana nak tampal gambar ni dalam buku report, tak de gam.
KFC: (dengan muka serius and selambanya) Pakai tahi hidung yaaaa..... (you must hear her speak first to appreciate why this is so hilarious)
Scene 2 (reconstruction):
Syed Moto, seperti biasa tanya soalan paling giler just to bring the teacher down.
Syed Moto: Teacher teacher, kenapa alat kelamin orang lelaki tak de lubang macam alat kelamin orang perempuan (well, ni aku reka, aku yang nak tahu actually)
KFC: Itu soalan kena tanya Tuhan yaaaa.....
And as always, each we asked her tricky questions or she sensed we wanted to "test" her - she would ask us "itu kena tanya Tuhan yaaaa...."
Imagine answering your Biology paper .... "itu kena tanya Tuhan yaaa"
I think she asked for a transfer in 1995 to go back to Ipoh where she lived with her parents. She was at STAR for a while, she could still be there.
One of the most eccentric teachers I have ever met.
On a related topic, I was in Kuala overseeing the last phase preparation for PPM (kalah nak pi World Cup). I notice that the no. of non-Malay teachers drops so drastically compared to our time; maybe 6-7 from a total of 70+ teachers. This cannot be good for the school - we may be an ethnic based school, but we were also brought up in an environment of rich interactions and respect and love for teachers from all the major races in Malaysia.
Stories and fond memories of EC Lim ("paham tak paham...", "lembu campur lembu, lembuuuuuu...."), Wu Kung Yoon (henjut masa assembly), Liew Lai Chun, Ling Ting Ting (well not true name, "lalat palalat"), Ooi (who speaks better Malay than majority of us), Yeap Keng Leng, Purushothanam Panicker, Thamam Singh, Tan Gim Hoe, Au Yong ("berdosa ngan Tuhan", Institut Sains Zahari cock up) coloured our upbringing. They influenced our upbringing and childhood so much that it balanced the racially laced messages we absorbed from Common Room and fire drills.
But what about today's budak koleq? What about today's kids generally?
To the ablest and most admired teachers of MCKK - we wouldn't have been where we are without your giving all that you had to us.
Chibiok's Wedding
Kahwin jugak Chibiok, selepas nearly masuk Malaysian Book of Records for pertunangan paling lama. Kalau aku tak tahu, ingat dah lama kahwin ngan tunang.
I will check later kalau2 ni ada kena mengena dengan terlupa kondom, or kondom bocor.
"Sudah terlambat, panggil tok kadi..."
PPM
Starting this weekend - ironically each year just a few days before PPM I was always in East Malaysia. Last year was Labuan, this year KK. Got bad, damn tired and this weekend it's reckning day for all that we have worked so far. Met Joe at KL Sentral on the way back from KK - hasn't changed a bit (well ada lah sikit-sikit), more of awkward silence, then chatty encounter. It's been a while.
ps: So tired, mind don't work anymore.

JomHeboh Futsal - Hampeh!
2) So much for Chibiok's "jomHeboh futsal malam ni sebab aku nak bagi kad kahwin aku" - since he was in Ipoh balik kampung!
3) Last-last only 10 people je yang datang - the usual suspects e.g. Wong, Auzir, Joe (yang bising-bising nak datang), Amoeba etc. haram tunjuk perut boroi.
4) But those who were still there by the time I dropped by - ha ha couldn't escape. Dah kena isi borang ha ha ha.
Sebenornya nak senyum tapi tak sempat sebab aku snap dulu
Picca tengah menggelabah since dia dah jadi 2nd seed for position mamat last kahwin.

Panjat Gunung
...cuti 1st May baru nie... Auzir for the first time..( and he said for the last time..ha..ha... ) follow aku panjat Gunung Bintang 1882m kat Banjaran Bintang.. Kedah... for 3 days expedition....ha..ha..Auzir pancit mcm nak mati...buat malu sprinter leman jer...ha..ha..
Anyway..sampai summit jugak...speret koleq la.. caya la.. after trekking for almost 16 hours... and pacat memang banyak nak mampus...at least sorang kena tak kurang..30 puluh ekor kot..... anyway nice trip... so ada sesaper nak follow next time....???
Nak tengok some photos...
Hazerq:
Sorry Wong,
Kau kalu ajak aku gi Bukit Bintang okey laa..
Mior:
Sapa lagi dlm gambo tu Wong. I can only recognise Auzir. Is that Dr Allen in the first picture? So Auzir sorang ke yg pancit? Org lain super fit? Tapi betul jugak Wong, sprinter mana kena ada stamina banyak2, lari 100m or 200m jer. Contoh terbaik Fadhil or Syam.. hahaha..
Wong:
Budak koleq..Auzir sorang jer...dia gatal nak follow... anyway pancit-pancit pung he still managed sampai la..tu okey la..tuh..
Tapi betul jugak...sprinter mana kena fit...??
* mcm Fadhil jatuh tejelepuk..masa inter-school punyer race.. nak cover..ala-ala masa tuh dah last...ha..ha..
Syam:
Hampeh...
Rough:
Adakah ini bermakna ekspidisi ke Gunung Bubu yang hangat-hangat tahi ayam dua tahun lepas hidup balik?
Aku kena paksa panjat Gunung Kinabalu August ni.
Kepada sapa-sapa yang mengenali aku - boleh lah siap-siapkan komen korang for my eulogy.
Memang sah tak turun and tak baliknya aku.
* gemuk sangat kah aku?
Wong:
Rough nak naik Gunung Kinabalu...??? ha..ha..although Gunung Kinabalu is one of the easiest climb pasal more than 3/4 of the climb dah 'climb' dengan bas... ( dia punyer height 4101m )..nut dah climb dengan bas almost 3300m ++ dah... )... tapi penat dia ..still penat la....because of altitude sickness.. at least cukup la bakar lelemak Rough...... ha..ha....
hopefully tak der plak porter kena kena angkat orang instead of barang nanti....
..so rough..kau kena turun futsal la..training....
Alan:
Moi? Panjat gunung??
Definitely not me in the pic...
Tapi, flattered jugak that you think I'm fit enough to panjat gunung....
Mpro:
Aku ingat aku nak ikut hazerk gi bukit bintang je lah.... abon nak ikut????
Auzir:
Aku perlu stop kan tomahan ini. Utk pengetahuan hangpa, aku orang no. 4 sampai kat puncak drpd 6 orang tau.
pastu on the way down aku slipped berapa kali tah. Ni gara gara Wongek cakap boleh pakai kasut futsal. Ceh..licin habis. Tak de grip. tu pasal jatuh.
Pastu aku punyer ligament lutut aku sakit la. Tu yang merangkak balik tu.
Wongek.
Next time kita naik Gunung Korbu la. Saper nak ikut?
Abon:
Aku nak aje........ smalam epit ajak pi vaji............ ada brani??????
Badut:
Ruff...aku suggest kau pegi jogginglah everyday......member aku cakap ..kalau kau boleh jog 40 minutes without stopping and then kau boleh still berkata-kata lepas jog tue..you would be ok.....;)......so still kena prepare walaupun naiknyer senang......macam wong cakap...altitude sickness still ada...mana gambar waktu camping kat ulu kenas hari tue?dah masuk 3 bulan nie kan wong...;)
Rough:
Suggestion tu semua orang boleh bg - tapi tu suggestion impossible. Nanti tak sempat aku mati kat Kinabalu, aku mati kat Bukit Antarabangsa je.
Aku lepas jalan 10 minit tercungap2 - BMI calculation bagi notis besar2 kat skrin -> "Gemuk laaa awak ni".
Esok turun futsal - then aku bawak copy DVD yang aku buat for you and Wong. Dlm tu banyak gambar semua and video.
Syam:
Rilek la Auzir, many congratulations for this achievement. aku selalu main futsal dgn kau and aku tahu kau mmg ada energy and capability panjat gunung. You don't have to do it again just to prove your point...we know...
Wong:
Abis.... la...99% Futsal mlm besok to be cancelled..pasal Rough dah bersuara....
Mpro:
Malas.... nak kena study bro... paper susah sekarang ni... lagipun, epit bukannya ajak aku, dia ajak ko sorang je... pegi la teman dia...
Rough:
Nak keluar batch laa aku mcm ni. Aku bersuara je futsal cancel. Apa tak berani lawan ke?
Mental note:
Kalau keluar batch, batch mana aku nak masuk?
Hmmm boleh masuk batch 2005 tak? Boleh claim batch centenary. Tapi batch kampung laaa pulak!
Joe:
aku pi main futsal kat summit this saturday, untuk ofis punya team.. team manager budak 82
ayien kata tomorrow nite ada futsal.. unless semua kensel sebab rough nak kutip borang & duit
Rough:
Yeeeeeeaaaaa finally.
Aku dah cakap urban legend je semua tu.... so esok bawak borang je dulu, duit aku tak kisah sngt sebab nanti Epit boleh sponsor (or Datuk Fadhil).
And gambo sekali, kalau tak aku pakai gambo korang masa F1 yang buat masa reunion hari tu.
Mpro:
Jgn salah kasi DVD cukup lah ruff... takut nanti terkasi DVD ko tgk buat projek sorang2 dalam toilet.... ko kan suka buat dalam toilet...
Rough:
Mpro:
Boleh gak… mahal tak?
Batch 66 ada banyak slot kosong... boleh la try apply tgk... diaorang tgh cari orang nak organize 40th anniversary punya reunion celebration....
Chibiok:
Aku nak kasi kad kahwin esok masa futsal .... jomheboh kat futsal esok
Auzir:
Aku bukan nak prove pada sesiapa. Tapi aku rasa syok ler naik gunungg. Especially masa tiba kat puncak. tak leh nak describe bros. Sampai jer..hilang letih. For real bros!
Pastu masa turun tu cam tak caya jer yang aku panjat tinggi giler. Cerun lak tu. hahaha..kalau kau tengok aksi aku sure kau gelak nyer. Especially masa aku nyaris jatuh gaung. Nasib baik ada Abang Mang selamat kan aku.
So..Mang..next trip jangan lupa ajak aku. Aku rasa Ruf pun boleh sampai. Badan dia dgn aku lebih kurang jer (at least itu yang dia kata la). Kita bawak Ruf gi Gunung Iras/Tebu dulu. Pastu kita gi Korbu.
Ada sape sape mau join ka?
Bobo:
wong,
mid and long distance runners samer jugak..
pok-pek pun employed the same tactic aka jatuh terjelepuk tapi mase tu die tgh lead laa..
Mior:
Hahaha, PokPek pun kena fire. Dia tak kisah Bobo ko tengah leading or kena tinggal kat belakang. Both implied ko tak fit. Kalo tgh leading & terjelepuk, tu maknanya dia dah outdo dia punya max limit, itula pasal buley tak a lead for a while, so kesimpulannya still tak fit, haha.

Testimonials
To have a good handle on reality and objectivity, especially when you had gone through 3 consecutive years of final and the team had come to a level that was beyond your own imagination when you first set out to do this - is not an easy thing.
So it is refreshing when I occasionally come across third party testimonials about how good, funny, sarcastic and entertaining our boys are.
The recognition, and the grudging respect that people give after seeing them in action - is worth more than any trophies.
These are but a few of the entries in the Internet, of people still in wonder of the boys' ability to make debating so fun.

debat & debate
Yang kurik itu kendi,
yang merah itu saga,
yang cerdik itu kami,
yang main redah itu mereka.
[Aleng's - the second speaker - opening speech in the final that got the hall laughing instantaneously]
You must be wondering what these verses of pantun are about. I was laughing when one of the speakers said this. Oh, debate -uh-uh. I went to UIA Gombak today (and yesterday) to watch the Grand Finale of UIA English & Malay Debate competition. My sister participated too; representing Mara Junior Science College of Langkawi and their team was ranked the sixth when they reached the octofinals. But they lost to Kolej Yayasan Saad on the first round of octofinals. Boo. Anyway, the teams that were competing in the grand finale are from SBPI Gombak vs. Malay College Kuala Kangsar for the Malay language debate, and Royal Military College vs. St. Xavier's Institution for the English language debate.
While the English debate was filled with intensity as both of the teams had frowns on their foreheads (they were too serious) as the speakers spoke (and no jokes whatsoever), the Malay language debate was filled with sarcasm (in a funny way) from both teams especially Malay College!
The first impression upon seeing the third speaker, from the big screen raising his point of information (POI, or izin laluan in Malay) was "Eiiiiii comelnyeee". He's a form three student, okay? But his ways of speech were amusing (e.g [1]imitating the second's speaker facial expressions when his poi's weren't accepted - it was caught on camera, the entire hall could see, haha. [2]"Subhanallah, subhanallah" *shakes head* -it was an act of sarcasm ; it's kind of hard to explain to someone who weren't there- when he started his rebuttal speech. [3]"Nampaknya hujah SBPI Gombak berombak-ombak", etc.). He's ranked the second best speaker among the 10 best speakers out of hundreds of speakers from 70+ schools, and plus, he won the best speaker in the final debate; and he's only form three!
MCKK almost won with a margin of 1.6 (see how close it was!) and out of the 7 judges, it was 4:3.
SEMI FINALIST!
SMIAA BOLEH!
Hajat kami tidak kesampaian kerana kami teramatlah berbesar hati jika kami dapat bertemu MCKK di Dewan Parlimen!
we're looking foward to see (sic) you guys(MCKK) in the future!

And there are actually many more.
Perhaps winning the hearts and minds of the audience brings more meaning to winning the trophies (yeah yeah so we say each time we lose).
Whining Lot
Well that explains the long absence of any posts from this blog despite so many events taking place.
But we should begin with updates of MCKK-related events in the past few weeks.
______________________________________________________________
1) Premier Cup Football (MC vs VI)
To those who are still unaware of the results - wait for it.
It's 11-0 for the Under-13 and 3-0 for the Under-18. The matches were held last weekend in KL.
2) UIA Debating Tournament
Our English and BM teams were ranked first and second respectively after the preliminary rounds. English team was undefeated throughout and in the process defeated St Xavier, the undefeated defending champion for the last 3 years. Unfortunately they lost to SSP in the quarter.
The final was between RMC and St Xavier and I could only laugh looking at the quality of the final debate. It was so bad with so many broken English that Hishamuddin looked really uncomfortable at the VIP seat, as some speakers kept mentioning the word "limitating" as opposed to "limiting". Needless to say, St Xavier (which was earlier defeated by koleq) won and deservingly so.
As for the BM, I am loss for words. After 3 straight years in the final and 3 straight controversial results, I have nothing else to say. I only need to point out that we lost by a margin on 1.5 (small margin) and jury of 4-3. One of the wise adjudicators that day was actually the coach of our opponent.
Apparently there had been some objections the night before the final but since this "whiter than white" coach went on to declare his interest and promise that he would be impartial, the organiser allowed him to adjudicate his own team. The rest, as they say, is history.
Perhaps the consolation was Aslam and Fendy being announced as the top 2 overall best speakers for the tournament, by a big margin leaving other debaters. Fendy was also announced best speaker for the final.
I was satisfied looking at the final, as we always tell the kids that do not pay attention as to who we are up against, because your real opponent is always our high standard. So long as we conform to our high standard - win or lose is secondary.
As for the adjudicators and some of the organisers, I wish they did not come to see our boys and tried to alleviate their misery (and failing miserably at that) by telling how they were so much better than the other team - but stop short of telling why they were denied the winning for 3 consecutive years.
If you want to be warped by the narrow confine of school rivalry and childish mentality, by all means go ahead. We have no problem as you will not go far in life. But can you not try to justify it to us because frankly speaking, I was quite disgusted.
3) HELP University College Debating Tournament
Dejavu. We were up against a team with all non-Malay speakers, the judges were all non-Malays. The daughter of one of the judges was actually with our opponent and I initially thought that judge was the teacher for our opponent since she was with them all the time. No prize for guessing what happened to the first team.
Lost to a non-entity team, whose arguments were so out of this world that the fact they were accepted by the judges indicates the judges' own mental capacity - nothing more than a 14 /15 year old school children.
The second team, which I expected to lose all along, sailed through to the next round (octo-finals) in June.
_____________________________________________________________
Now on to the real issue.
The whining lot.
I am quite disheartened to notice that there is an increasing trend of budak koleq whining and complaining everything under the Sun, especially the really junior ones.
The amount of complaints and the kind of complaints (or whining) that I had to deal in my encounters with koleq boys really tested my own patience.
Why it has come to this?
1) No fire drill. Not even a lecture. Not even push up. Well they might as well enrol to Raja Perempuan Kalsom. I never like physical means to push through a message, certainly what ever meted out should not cross the boundary of physical contact. Yet punishment is necessary to mould characters at young age, especially fair punishment given out responsibly.
2) Parents. If any parents are reading this, being adult and "sudah lanjut usia" myself, I understand the parental instinct. However, we make an informed choice to send our kids to a boarding school, especially old boys who know what kind of system is in place in MCKK. If we don't wish our kids to be subjected to this, well don't enrol them in the first place. Send them to SMK Damansara Jaya - they offer better facilities and all that you cannot find in Kuala Kangsar. But to send our kids there and entertain their whining on some small matters, we do not do justice to both the kids and the school. We cannot have the cake and eat it too.
MCKK is an institution for boys. Psychologically, they need more rules and discipline especially at that age. In a place like MCKK, it is not the formal education in class room that is important, it is the value inculcated from the very young age. How was the value inculcated and cultivated - well through out of this world methods which the majority may not agree with. If you take away all these mechanisms that had worked all these years, it's nothing more than a mediocre school which happens to have a very nice colonial building.
Enough said. I whine a lot myself lately.
It has been bad.
PS
1) Ohh in case I forgot, the score was in favour of VI. Koleq was beaten 11-0 and 3-0 for U-13 and U-18 respectively. This is like what we do to Tsung Wah in hockey! I reserve my own conclusion.
2) Some pictures from UIA.
